The 5,000-seat Star Theatre is a traditional horseshoe-shaped auditorium in three tiers with excellent acoustics for amplified music. The project includes 1,200m2 of supporting facilities including the Star Gallery – a 770-seat function hall which can be partitioned into up to five separate rooms, each with it own advanced audio-visual facilities. There are also seven ancillary meeting rooms ranging from 65m2 to 163m2, plus the Star Light – a dance studio; the Star Loft – a 215 m2 private reception room; and the Star Terrace – a 300-seat outdoor amphitheatre.
Philip Soden was Technical and Operations Consultant for IMG Artists Singapore who were engaged directly by the client to advise on operational aspects of the design. His role included providing appraisal and advice as to the most appropriate designs for operational considerations and anticipated future user requirements, reviewing evolving designs on an ongoing basis, providing specific operational information and input in discussion with the design team during initial design, construction through to handover.
